Effect

Lash extensions measured zone by zone, 7 to 13 mm. Umea Estudio, by Daniela Durán, in Mexico City.

I do the wispy look as a Volume set. My next open slot is Tuesday the 27th at 10:00.

Sheet pending: my hand-drawn map goes above. Until it arrives, the map shows the lengths I work with today for each effect. The photo is my own work: wispy volume.

Classic

On a Classic set I do the natural look with a C or CC curl: 8, 9, 11, 11, and 10 mm from the inner corner out.

I place one extension on each natural lash, 7 to 13 mm depending on the zone of the eye.

A first appointment takes 2 h and costs from $1,200 MXN, tax included.

A fill takes 1 h 15 min if you come back within 3 weeks.

To hold your time you pay a $360 MXN deposit, which comes off the total.

If you're not sure where to start

Here's what each effect does to the way your eyes look, and which eyes and faces it usually suits. I make the final call with you at your appointment, once I see your eyes.

When I choose, I look at your eye first: whether it's round or almond-shaped, how much lid shows when it's open, which way the outer corner points and how close together your eyes are. From your face, what counts is the space between your eye and your brow, and whether you wear glasses.

  • Natural

    I use 8, 9, 11, 11, and 10 mm from the inner corner out.

    How your eyes look
It follows the length of your own lashes, shorter at the inner corner and a little longer just past the center: it defines your lash line from the root and your eye keeps its shape.
Which eyes and faces it usually suits
It works on almost any eye. If it's your first time with extensions, this is usually where I start. On your face it doesn't change your proportions, because it doesn't lengthen or round the eye, so it tends to suit any face shape. I pick the length against your natural lash so it can hold it.
    What I adjust
If your eyes are hooded, I go up to a CC or D curl so the lashes lift and don't hide under the lid.
  • Cat eye

    I use 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 mm from the inner corner out.

    How your eyes look
Lengths build toward the outer corner: it elongates the eye and gives the end a lift, like winged liner.
Which eyes and faces it usually suits
It tends to suit round eyes, because it elongates them, and close-set eyes, because it pulls attention outward. On your face it tends to draw attention toward your temples. The longest lashes sit at the outer corner: if your brow sits close to your eye there, I shorten them so they don't brush it.
    What I adjust
If your outer corners turn down or your lid covers them, I put the longest lashes just before the corner with a D curl, so the corner doesn't look droopier.
  • Doll eye

    I use 9, 11, 12, 10, and 9 mm from the inner corner out.

    How your eyes look
The longest lashes sit at the center: it opens the eye upward and rounds it, so it tends to look bigger.
Which eyes and faces it usually suits
It tends to suit hooded eyes and monolids, because it opens them, and wide-set eyes, because it draws attention to the center. On your face it tends to show most from the front, because the longest lashes sit at the center. That center is the first thing to brush your brow if there's little space between brow and eye, or your lenses if you wear glasses: in those cases I go shorter.
    What I adjust
On round eyes it makes them even rounder: if you don't want that, I move the longest point a little outward.
  • Wet

    I use 8, 9, 11, 11, and 10 mm from the inner corner out.

    How your eyes look
I close the fans into spikes, like lashes fresh out of the shower or with mascara on: you notice the texture more than the fullness.
Which eyes and faces it usually suits
The spikes follow whichever map suits your eye, at the same lengths, so it works on almost any eye.On your face it reads like mascara texture and doesn't change the shape of your eye, so it tends to suit any face shape. If you wear glasses, I check that the longest spike doesn't touch the lens.
    What I adjust
If your eyes are hooded, I make the spikes shorter and curl them more so they don't brush the lid.
  • Wispy

I use 7, 8, 9, 10, and 9 mm from the inner corner out. The spikes go from 9 to 13 mm.

    How your eyes look
Over a base of shorter lashes I place longer spikes along the line: it looks textured and feathered, fuller and softer than wet.
Which eyes and faces it usually suits
It tends to suit almost any eye, because the spikes follow whichever map suits your eye shape. If your lashes are sparse or fine, the base usually fills the gaps and the spikes add the texture. On your face it reads as texture and doesn't change your proportions, so it tends to suit any face shape. The spikes are the longest part of the map: if your brow sits close to your eye or you wear glasses, I shorten them so they don't brush your brow or touch the lens.
    What I adjust
If your eyes are hooded, I use a CC or D curl so the spikes lift and don't hide under the lid. If you want to elongate the eye, I make the spikes on the outer third longer, like a soft cat eye.

The technique

The effect is the shape of the map. The technique is how many fibers I place on each lash, and that decides how full your lash line looks.

  • Classic: one extension on each natural lash. They look like yours, only longer and darker, and how much they show depends on how many lashes you have.
  • Hybrid: classic lashes mixed with light fans. They fill gaps and add texture without getting as full as volume.
  • Volume: fans of 3 to 5 fine fibers on each lash. The line looks full and soft, and it's usually the pick if you don't have many lashes of your own.
  • Mega volume: fans of 6 or more ultra-fine fibers. It's the densest, darkest line I do, and at your appointment I check that your natural lashes can hold it.
  • Lash lift: I lift and curl your own lashes from the root, with no extensions. It shows the length you already have, so the change is bigger if your lashes are long and grow straight.

If you're still not sure, book the technique you like best and we'll pick the effect at your appointment, with your eyes right in front of me.

Book

I'm Daniela Durán.

I've been doing lashes for more than five years: classic, hybrid, volume and mega volume, plus lash lifts. Before I start I draw a map of each eye, with the length of every zone in millimeters, because no two eyes ask for the same thing. I work alone, one client at a time, in my home studio: the exact address comes with your confirmed appointment.
